Jail Overcrowding Reduction Subcommittee

The Jail Overcrowding Subcommittee was formed in May 2008 to identify and remediate the systemic causes of jail overcrowding.  The Jail Overcrowding Reduction Project was launched as a result of a partnership between the Chief Executive Office and CCJCC.

The Subcommittee is also tasked with overseeing the work of a consultant that will assist the County in analyzing data and current processes across L.A. County’s criminal justice system to identify inefficiencies that lead to overcrowding, recommending strategies to remediate those inefficiencies, and providing technical assistance in implementing selected strategies.

The subcommittee is includes executive-level representatives from the Alternate Public Defender’s Office, CCJCC, County Prosecutors Association, Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Information Systems Advisory Body, Los Angeles Police Department, Police Chiefs Association, Public Defender, Probation Department, Sheriff’s Department, and Superior Court.
